Going Potty up North with a Picnic in the Park!

Description : Indulge your creative streak with a break at Newforge House that incorporates a "One-to-one on Potter's Wheel" at the award winning Ballydougan Pottery.

This break includes a one and a half hour session with a trained Potter. Your session begins with a tour of Ballydougan Pottery followed by private tuition in traditional pottery techniques including throwing. You will spend around one hour creating your own pots. Your two favourite pots will be expertly glazed and fired for you to keep as a lasting momento of your visit.

After all your hard work you might then like to relax with a picnic in the nearby Lurgan Park- the second largest townland park in Ireland, with lovely lakeside and woodland walks- or at Oxford Island on the shores of Lough Neagh. The reserve consists of 109 hectares with 8km of walks and nature trails accessible in all seasons.

Irish Linen & Art Midweek 2-night Break

Description : Once the site of Magheralin Hem Stitching Factory, Newforge House now offers a luxurious touring base from which to explore what was once the heart of the world's linen production- the Lagan valley basin.

A visit to Thomas Ferguson Irish Linen offers a rare opportunity to see Irish Linen at its various stages of production. These include design, weaving, specialist cutting, hemming and ornamenting. The company, established in 1854, is the only Irish linen damask weaver remaining in the whole of Ireland weaving traditional Irish damask table linen.

Also in Banbridge, the F.E. McWilliam Gallery & Studio commemorates the sculptor Frederick Edward McWilliam, one of Ireland's most influential and sucessful artists. McWilliam was born in Banbridge on 30th April 1909. The gallery and studio houses the collection in a superb exhibition facility of gallery, garden and reconstructed studio.

On the second day, take a champagne picnic basket and pop the question wherever you decide......be it on the shores of Lough Neagh, at Mount Stewart's Temple of the Winds, on Titanic's dry dock or in the Mourne Mountains' Silent Valley. You may just decide to stay at Newforge and propose in our beautiful gardens or with the chickens in the orchard!
